Sesamoidian Ligament Injury

Robbie belongs to Claire Aldridge and was our last patient on the power plate at Solaria before the move to Smallwood Centre of Excellence.

Sesamodian ligaments are notoriously difficult injuries and don’t often get a good prognosis from the veterinary surgeons. However with intensive physio and correct rehab, Robbie is a huge success story, demonstrating the importance of team work between the professions – vet/physio/farrier.  Combine this with owner resilience and determination and successful results can be achieved.

Two Weeks From Start of Robbie’s Intensive Treatment Plan

Robbie PowerPlate

Robbie was admitted as an inpatient for one month and the first video was taken after following vet protocol for trot up.

His treatment was Longwave Ultrasound, combined with INDIBA therapy and controlled exercise, slowly building up from in-hand walking to longlining, progressing to ridden work.

Robbie came for monthly treatment to support his recovery and over the course of a year, he has gone from 8/10th lame to back into full exercise.

12 Months Later…

Sesamodial Ligament Injury

Robbie’s owner, Claire is now considering showjumping again and couldn’t be more pleased with his outcome!

After just wishing that she would be able to hack him again, she is thrilled to be back out competing in dressage.

Robbie now only has maintenance physio every two to three months, just to ensure that he is tip top all over!
