Healing Quality

After a busy summer of treating tendon and ligament injuries, I just wanted to reiterate the service we  provide to those that don’t know me and my team.
Healing quality
The importance for healing of most tendon and ligament injuries is controlled walk exercise and providing the environment for quality healing.

Intensive physiotherapy provided at GKVP enables maximum healing but most importantly, it is the quality of heal.  It is sometimes misunderstood when physiotherapy can or should be applied.  Physiotherapy, in the form of electrotherapies can provide the ultimate healing environment.

Waiting for a month delays what can be achieved, but even at this stage, the sooner you apply the correct treatments to the injury, the more you are able to achieve a good quality of heal, where the possibility of  reinjury is unlikely.

What do I mean by quality of heal?

In tendon and ligament injuries, it is the adhesions that form when fluid sits between the fibres.  These appear as bright white lines on a scan and they disrupt the fibres sliding over each other when the structure is used in locomotion.

So why do we box rest?  Because we have to enable the structure to heal, when there is a core lesion and this is  a balancing act.  That is why, when patients are admitted in to my rehab facility, they are walked religiously and are treated twice a day with electrotherapies.  The treatment program as a whole, maximises results and proof can be seen on subsequent ultrasound scans.  This is how we monitor the healing process in conjunction with the patient’s vet.
Healing Quality
This summer we have case histories of DDFT, check ligaments and sesamiodian ligaments. All of these patients are nicely back into work and continuing their careers.
